This graphic novel brings to life the story of Anna Sewell, the beloved author of Black Beauty. As someone who has grown up with the classic tale, I wanted to share the lesser-known story of its author. I carefully designed the cover to mirror the first published edition, incorporating vintage-inspired typography, layout, and detailing to honor its original charm. Inside, the black-and-white spreads feature rich shading and bold, expressive lines that add depth and emotion to each scene. Through dynamic illustrations and thoughtful storytelling, I captured Sewell’s journey, from her early struggles with illness to her deep love for horses and the creation of her timeless novel. This project allowed me to weave together history, design, and narrative to celebrate Sewell’s lasting legacy.
